- CD ROM-USA, Inc. LAUNCHES NEXT GENERATION OF CRI-X2
-
- San Francisco, CA...February 7, 1995 ... In response to heavy
- consumer demand for user-ready data compression CD-ROM software,
- CD ROM-USA, Inc. announced today at the Intermedia Conference and
- Exhibition on Multimedia and CD-ROM its enhanced CRI-X2Ö driver and
- a limited-time offer. The new version is known as CRI-X2Ö 2.O.
- Previous concerns associated with only using conventional memory have
- been eliminated. The capability to load multiple volumes of up to
- 2.0 GB of data per volume has been added, doing away with the Microsoft
- DOS barrier. The company routinely places 2.0 GB of data on CD-ROM discs
- for commercial use, and recently experienced an industry first-placing
- 5.0 GB of data on a shipping CD-ROM disc. This new development especially
- impacts companies archiving data on a regular basis. For example, one
- CD-ROM disc with conventional memory can hold approximately 330,000
- standard 8 1l2" x 11" single-spaced pages of text. CRI-X2Ö technology
- multiplies that amount, and most often achieves 3.0:1, giving licensees
- the ability to place over 1 million pages of ACSII text on a single CD-ROM
- disc.
- The recent improvements also make CRI-X2 ideal for many multi-media
- applications such as games, training and entertainment. Beginning today,
- CD ROM-USA, Inc. is offering the new CRI-X2Ö Introductory Package at just
- $149.00, which includes a 100-disc license. Special lower pricing also
- affects 500, 1,000 and 10,000-piece licenses (Please call for revised rates.
- From now through February 28 of this year, this new pricing structure
- allows users to take a quantum leap into the next generation of CD-ROM
- technology, vastly increasing disc capacity for a very affordable price.
- "With our new lower prices and significant improvements in the
- revolutionary CRI-X2Ö software, there is now no reason that anyone
- interested in data compression technology cannot test it with their own
- applications," said Lisa Weber, Vice President of Advertising and
- Marketing at CD ROM û USA, Inc. "Because our company develops real,
- working solutions to virtually any type of CD-ROM technical requirements,
- we foresee adding many companies to our lengthy list of CRI-X2Ö customers.
- We are pleased to be able to offer improved technology at lower prices,"
- she added.
- Last May, CD ROM û USA, Inc. astounded the CD-ROM industry by announcing
- the new data compression technology, which permits users of STACKER 4.0
- to copy compressed volumes directly to a CD-ROM disc. This process can
- increase data storage capacity up to 15 times on a standard CD-ROM disc.
- With no modifications to existing hardware, the user can expect to see
- unprecedented performance enhancements, especially when storing text,
- data and images. CRI-X2Ö is compatible with any PC, 8086 through Pentium.
- Macintosh«, OS2« and UnixÖ versions are currently under development.
- CD ROMû USA, Inc. is the consulting division of CD ROM, Inc., founded in
- 1988 by CD-ROM industry pioneer Dr. Roger S. Hutchison. The firm was
- listed in INC Magazine's special "500" issue last fall as the 184th
- fastest-growing privately-held company in the country and 3rd in the
- State of Colorado.
